SviSound OverZoid Oz02 Overdrive Pedal Review

The SviSound OverZoid Oz02 Overdrive pedal is the new addition to Mark’s great designs over at SviSound in Bulgaria. Mark is responsible for making one of the best overdrives on the planet called the OverZoid Oz01. The new Oz02 adds a few new bits and pieces which makes it a great choice on its own or as a point of difference from the heralded Oz01. All of the SviSound pedals are beautiful to look at featuring a unique steampunked look which is part industrial and part gothic. The standout piece on this pedal is the lovely jewel light positioned in the middle which lights up a really nice blue color thanks to the dual LED inside the pedal.

Simple Controls & Gain Stage

What I love about the OverZoid is how simple it is, and how great it sounds. Some pedals get carried away with too many controls and the OverZoid keeps it simple by having a Gain, Tone, and Volume control only. With the Gain all the way down, the pedal is pretty much dead clean and as soon as you start to wind up the gain it feels like how you wished your amp would sound if you had the drive channel you always wanted. This is not a high gain overdrive but it would be considered moderate gain in my opinion. It does have more gain than the original OverZoid but the pedals are different in tonality too so it’s best to check out both pedals online and see which one you like most.

Three Way Toggle Switch

Click for a larger image

The new OverZoid Oz02 features a new three-way toggle switch on the lower left which changes the type of clipping. With the switch down you’re getting the OverZoid’s standard drive signal. With the Switch up you’re getting a slightly higher gain type and with the switch, in the middle, it’s a lighter gain type.

The SviSound OverZoid Oz02 is full true bypass and it doesn’t have an internal battery compartment so you’ll need to power it via a regular boss style power supply. The pedal is powered by a 9 volt power supply.

Overall

This is another wonderful overdrive pedal from SviSound. It’s simple, it’s beautiful and it sounds great with both guitars I have tested it with so far. It’s a point of difference from the original which I still use on my board from time to time till this day. I can’t wait to try them both in a live situation and see how they feel in a live context. That said it sounds great in the video above and I would have no hesitations using them on my own #1 pedal board. Mark makes a great product and a wide selection of unique looking and sounding pedals worth a look. He’s not building clones like a huge portion of the pedal industry. If you want something original and unique then check out SviSound you won’t be disappointed.

SviSound FuzzoZoid Fuzz/Overdrive Pedal Review

The FuzzoZoid pedal is a very original pedal from Mark at SviSound. When it comes to pedal in today’s pedal market, there are so many clones of clones, but not with SviSound. Mark makes original sounding and original looking pedals and the FuzzoZoid should not be overlooked.

This particular pedal is labeled as a fuzz pedal but it’s actually a mix of fuzz and overdrive in one which makes the pedal more useful in my opinion. This particular flavor of sound will appeal to anyone from blues, classic rock, and beyond. I’ve personally used it at a show as a lead pedal on through my Fender Super Reverb and it simply sounds great. It has great sustain, great tone, and is very LOUD! The volume control won’t need to be turned up too much to give your amp a kick so I would suggest starting with the volume control at one-quarter volume when you first kick it on.

The SviSound FuzzoZoid has three main controls which include Volume, Tone, and Gain. As I mentioned above this pedal is quite loud so get ready for a good old fashioned kick on your amp when you first turn it on. The gain will go from smooth to more gnarly tones which will cover anything from traditional blues to heavier rock. The tone control adjusts the treble of the pedal and this control really impacts the overall tone of the pedal. There’s also a three-way toggle switch on the FuzzoZoid. With the switch up it will be on “normal mode” which is my personal favorite. On this setting, you’re getting a full and round sound with the clarity you’d expect from your guitar and amp combination. When the toggle switch is in the middle you’ll be on Treble mode with cuts out all the low end. The Bass mode rolls out a lot of tops so you’re left with a fat and chuggy tone. I play blues on the most part and the normal selection is my personal favorite. If you’re into layering and texturing sounds on albums or in a band situation, the other two options will also be very useful.

The SviSound build quality is top notch and Mark puts a lot of love and attention to detail in not only the design but also the tones of his pedals. This pedal falls right in the middle of Fuzz and Overdrive and may prove to be a more useful pedal for those not into a full-blown fuzz tone. While it is part overdrive in nature it sounds very different to the OverZoid and OverZoid 2 Pedals from SviSound. Check them all out before buying and see which one you like the best.

SviSound HV High Voltage Booster Pedal Review

The SviSound 24 Volt Booster is a great little pedal from Mark at SviSound. Not only is the design amazing, but what this pedal does, it does fantastic. Let’s talk about the wizardry inside this pedal. You power the HV Boost with a regular 9-volt power supply like any other pedal out there, but thanks to some internal voltage up-scaling, it boosts the output to 24v. This little internal wizardry makes this little pedal LOUD!

SviSound HV Boost Pedal

Features:

I love simple pedals. Nothing about this pedal is complicated to get great results, so it gets a 10/10 for simplicity. There’s one pot on the top that controls the gain/volume of the pedal. A two-way toggle switch is labeled “n” and “t.” The “n” is a lower-end boost, while the “t” is a top-end boost. For me, this pedal lives on the “n” setting, but if you’re looking for a treble booster, you’re also in luck.

SviSound HV Boost Toggle Switch

SviSound HV Boost Review Video

Check out the video below for a SviSound HV Boost Pedal demo.

How to use the High Voltage Booster Pedal

Another benefit of the SviSound High Voltage Booster is you can use it before or after other pedals. Let’s say you have your overdrive pedal on. If you run the HV boost before that pedal, you’ll get more gain without much more volume. By also having the pedal set to “t” you’ll add clarity to your tone. If you run the HV Boost after your overdrive, you’ll get one heck of a volume boost while retaining your original tone.

Overall

This is a great little boutique pedal from Mark at SviSound. It’s no secret I am a huge fan of his products, and this mini-pedal is no exception. One thing I would have liked added to it is a middle position which would be neutral in terms of tone, but the “n” setting is your tone and a little more, which is great. I highly recommend his pedals to those interested in unique and innovative ones. Not only are the SviSound pedals unique, but they also sound unique—8/10 for Mark at SviSound on this little beauty. Read more SviSound Reviews here.
